Description

The General English Program is a 24-week live online course from ALA Academy, an educational service of ALA Core, offered at six CEFR levels from A1 to C2. You join one level-based cohort and build practical communication skills through purposeful tasks, speaking practice, and regular feedback. Progression depends on evidence from your exit assessment and portfolio, not on attendance alone.

Course Structure

  • Duration: 24 weeks per level, in two 12-week sublevels (for example, A1.1 and A1.2)

  • Sessions: 72 live online sessions (3 per week, 2 hours each)

  • Total live hours: 144 per level

  • Guided practice: 2–3 hours per week (proposed), about 192–216 guided learning hours in total

  • Units: 12 units per level, each with six sessions

  • Weekly rhythm: language systems and pronunciation, integrated skills, and a speaking and action task

  • Levels: A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2 (one cohort equals one CEFR level)

  • Placement: online core test, live speaking interview, and writing task before the course

  • Method: action-oriented, CEFR-aligned learning through collaborative tasks

What You Will Learn

  • Listening and reading for main ideas, details, and purpose

  • Writing: planning, drafting, and revising messages, paragraphs, and longer texts

  • Speaking and interaction: role-plays, discussions, presentations, and communication repair

  • Pronunciation: word stress, sentence rhythm, intonation, and clear connected speech

  • A1–A2: personal information, daily routines, travel, shopping, services, and everyday needs

  • B1–B2: opinions, experiences, problem solving, detailed discussion, and professional communication

  • C1–C2: precise and flexible communication, synthesis, negotiation, and advanced presentations

Projects and Assessment

  • Baseline speaking task and monthly speaking and writing checks

  • Mid-level assessment in Week 12

  • Final action project with presentation and Q&A

  • Exit assessment in Week 24 covering listening, reading, writing, speaking, and your portfolio

  • Possible outcomes: advance to the next level, continue in the same band with a support plan, reassign to a more suitable cohort, or move to a specialist track

  • Your certificate states the outcomes you have actually demonstrated

Optional Practice Track

An optional 8-week practice program (16 sessions) after the core course.

  • Track A: speaking and everyday English for A1–A2
